n month three everybody is getting more adjusted to our new lives. We enjoy being here: the sky is really blue almost every day, which is a big difference from what we would experience in the Netherlands at this time of the year. However, there are weeks that I am really busy and some weeks I am actually bored, which are tough to get through. For example: last week I had 3 days I was helping at the schools of Marlo and Nolan, an evening activity at Marlo his school with dinosaurs, while Thursday it was Halloween. In short, that was a stuffed…. … More Month 3: All about Fall traditions
eeing Halloween in the American movies and series planted some pictures in our head on what to expect. Creepy costumes, houses totally decorated with scary stuff and people who scare you…Or is that me intoxicated by Hollywood?? So walking into “home depot” and “Halloween spirit” (it’s a store) made us looking forward to see all the decorated houses. But actually in our street there are like 12 houses but only 2 were decorated and then there was us. We did buy some decoration and Marlo and Nolan really liked our inflatable cat! But it is expensive to decorate so we didn’t go over the top. In the neighborhood there were some houses that did a great job decorating and passing those houses the boys were getting more excited everyday for going trick and treating. … More “Halloween” Yeah!! or are we intoxicated through Hollywood?
he question that was asked the most times since we moved here: “have you been to our amazing zoo?” Now I think we have a lot of amazing zoos in the Netherlands and we did go with our boys and their grandparents towards the “Beekse Bergen” zoo just a few weeks before we moved. That zoo is such an amazing one that I didn’t know if I was going to like this zoo in the middle of a big city, but I can be short: the ABQ BioPark Zoo is a really beautiful zoo and worth every penny. … More Day at the zoo
Like Nolan said at the table the other night… “so here we are, eating our dinner.” It was like he wanted to say “okay so now I understand what has happened the last two months”. I think he is starting to realize his life has changed and we needed to give him some more attention to adjust for it. We still have our struggles with him and moving continents didn’t make it easy to be consequent at all to him. He always wants things to go his way and that also goes for the food, which most of the times would be… … More Another month goes by…
The balloon fiesta is here… since we decided to move here I started following some hash tags like #travelnewmexico #newmexicolife #newmexico #albuquerque #riorancho and many photos from the fiesta popped up… I started looking forward to this event of 9 days… so last Saturday when I put on the TV we saw that the air balloons wouldn’t go up because of the fog. That evening we decided to get up early the next morning and watch from a park to see the hot air balloons. When I woke up Marlo, he said: “I didn’t know that we were going to watch the balloons.” But he put on his clothes and was excited we were going. It is so beautiful to see all these balloons and I totally understand that this is the most photographed event in the world. … More Balloon Fiesta at Albuquerque
It’s already been a few weeks since we had an extra day off. The first national holiday we had was Labor Day. It’s an annual holiday to celebrate the economic and social contributions of workers to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. For many people Labor Day is the end of the summer vacation season around the USA or just an extra day off ;-). We were already going to school for 2 weeks so it wasn’t the end of the season for us. Freek told me “you don’t work so please arrange everything for the weekend trips” and so I did…. … More Roadtrip with Alpacas, Turquoise Trail, Santa Fe and Meow Wolf
Living in America, made me look into the US laws! And then I realized that this big country has 50 little countries inside of it, with their own rules. So it’s more like Europe, only in Europe we have all the different languages when you cross a border instead of everybody speaking English. But really every state has own rules and laws. Of course we know that some states have the death penalty and some don’t and that is the same with abortion. But a state can also decide if a resident (non US citizen) will need to have a drivers license from that state or not. … More US driver’s license
