It was the first time Freek needed to go away for his work for a week. He went to China for 2 days but travelled 24 hours forth and 24 hours back. I wouldn’t want to go in his place anyway but I needed to do this week on my own. (Of course there were friends that texted me that I could count on them whenever I would need them when Freek was gone) Freek left very early on Monday and the first two days the boys were very sweet and they listened as they were little angels. But on Wednesday I got the massage that my grandma passed away. Luckily we have internet these days so a phone call is one click away with skype or whatssApp and I had some busy days at Marlo his school volunteering. So maybe it was because of my emotions and temper but we had a few rough days after that. The boys didn’t listened anymore and Nolan didn’t want to eat only when I would feed him. And for me it was easier to just do it and not make a big deal out of it… But he would get his dinner cold because I wanted to eat my dinner warm. But we survived the week and looking back the week went by pretty fast but I definitely missed the grandparents some moments this week! … More This month flew by……being home alone with the boys and no grandparents on the watch
Our first thanksgiving started with a lot of snow! The forecast said there was a 100% snow certainty, so the day before we made sure our sleds and snow shovels were ready to use. Snow wasn’t actually something I was expecting when we moved to the desert, but the next morning the weather forecast was on point and I was happily surprised to see the whole area around completely white!! Luckily the snow boots from last year still fitted and we had bought some new ski pants for the boys! We were ready to enjoy the snow! … More It’s gonna be a white white… Thanksgiving
n month three everybody is getting more adjusted to our new lives. We enjoy being here: the sky is really blue almost every day, which is a big difference from what we would experience in the Netherlands at this time of the year. However, there are weeks that I am really busy and some weeks I am actually bored, which are tough to get through. For example: last week I had 3 days I was helping at the schools of Marlo and Nolan, an evening activity at Marlo his school with dinosaurs, while Thursday it was Halloween. In short, that was a stuffed…. … More Month 3: All about Fall traditions
eeing Halloween in the American movies and series planted some pictures in our head on what to expect. Creepy costumes, houses totally decorated with scary stuff and people who scare you…Or is that me intoxicated by Hollywood?? So walking into “home depot” and “Halloween spirit” (it’s a store) made us looking forward to see all the decorated houses. But actually in our street there are like 12 houses but only 2 were decorated and then there was us. We did buy some decoration and Marlo and Nolan really liked our inflatable cat! But it is expensive to decorate so we didn’t go over the top. In the neighborhood there were some houses that did a great job decorating and passing those houses the boys were getting more excited everyday for going trick and treating. … More “Halloween” Yeah!! or are we intoxicated through Hollywood?
Like Nolan said at the table the other night… “so here we are, eating our dinner.” It was like he wanted to say “okay so now I understand what has happened the last two months”. I think he is starting to realize his life has changed and we needed to give him some more attention to adjust for it. We still have our struggles with him and moving continents didn’t make it easy to be consequent at all to him. He always wants things to go his way and that also goes for the food, which most of the times would be… … More Another month goes by…
It’s already been a few weeks since we had an extra day off. The first national holiday we had was Labor Day. It’s an annual holiday to celebrate the economic and social contributions of workers to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. For many people Labor Day is the end of the summer vacation season around the USA or just an extra day off ;-). We were already going to school for 2 weeks so it wasn’t the end of the season for us. Freek told me “you don’t work so please arrange everything for the weekend trips” and so I did…. … More Roadtrip with Alpacas, Turquoise Trail, Santa Fe and Meow Wolf
